Happy Halloween! This holiday, which tempts even the most self disciplined to over-indulge, makes me think about the importance of teaching our children self-control. Research shows that individuals with high self-control enjoy better physical and mental health as well as greater success in school, work and relationships. Those with low self-control are more likely to smoke, drink excessively, use drugs, be obese, and die at a younger age. Learning self-control is critical to a child’s long-term health and safety.
