A goal of Rossman School is to prepare children academically, socially and emotionally to succeed in an independent secondary school. Rossman’s accelerated educational program makes it important to give consideration to each child’s capabilities and challenges. An applicant must have the aptitude to meet the requirements of Rossman’s academic program. Standards for each grade level must be met to ensure a child’s placement. If qualified, siblings and legacies are given preferential placement at the Junior Kindergarten level.
Rossman School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available at the school. Rossman does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, tuition assistance program, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
Steps to Apply
Schedule a personal tour with our Director of Admission, Katharine Durham.
2) Submit an Application by February 1
The school must receive the following for each applicant before an admission decision can be made:
- Online Application
- Non-refundable application and evaluation fee ($110)
3) Apply for Tuition Assistance by February 15
Learn more about tuition assistance here. Although the fifteenth of February is the preferred date for having a completed tuition assistance application on file in the Business Office, applications are accepted throughout the admissions season.
4) Schedule an Evaluation
The admission evaluation process is designed to ensure thoughtful consideration of each applicant and a comfortable match between a child and his or her family and the school.
Our Junior and Senior Kindergarten evaluations are a combination of an individual Gesell Developmental Observation Assessment and observation of children in small playgroups at Rossman. The Gesell does not measure I.Q. or academic skills. Because the Gesell provides a qualitative evaluation rather than a numerical score, the teachers administrating the assessment have received special training to interpret a child’s responses. Aside from the evaluation day, it is possible that a member of the Admission Committee will visit your preschool to observe your child in the familiar setting of his or her own classroom.
Rossman often has a few openings in the first through sixth grades. Children in these grades are evaluated through a series of grade appropriate tests. First through sixth grade applicants are invited to spend a school day at Rossman.
After submitting your child’s application, contact Director of Admission Katharine Durham at firstname.lastname@example.org or 314-434-5877, ext. 203, to schedule an evaluation.
