Lauren Brody

bio_brody.jpgA mother of two, Lauren remembers sitting at her desk one day in second grade, looking up at her teacher and thinking, “That is exactly what I want to do when I grow up.” Today she aims to share with Rossman’s Senior Kindergarteners the joy of learning that her own teachers instilled in her.

Lauren endeavors to provide her students a loving and positive learning environment where they feel safe to take risks and know it is OK to make mistakes. She is elated by the happiness on her students’ faces when they have understood a new idea or solved a challenging problem.

Having focused her graduate studies on educational technology and earned a computer endorsement credential with her Bachelors, Lauren uses her expertise to strategically integrate technology into the SK curriculum. She also is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Outside of school, Lauren enjoys visiting St. Louis attractions with her family and rediscovering each one through the eyes of her two children. She also likes to ice-skate and is well on her way to accomplishing her goal of visiting each of the 50 states.

Anne-Marie Christopher

bio_christopher.jpg

A Buffalo, New York native, Anne-Marie brings nearly four decades of education experience to Rossman’s Senior Kindergarten classroom. An enthusiastic and compassionate educator with a Masters in Elementary Education, Anne-Marie taught at schools in Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois before dedicating 32 years to Rossman as a second grade teacher.

During her short-lived retirement from 2014-2017, Anne-Marie remained connected to Rossman as a substitute teacher, and in 2017 her affection for Rossman’s students brought her back to the faculty as a Senior Kindergarten teacher.

“I love teaching,” Anne-Marie says. “I look out at the eager faces of your students at the beginning of a school year and know that there may be some ups and downs but at the end of that year those student will look a little older and taller, they’ll be a little smarter and wiser, and I will forever remember them as the ‘best class ever.’ That brings so much joy and satisfaction.”

When she isn’t nurturing and inspiring Rossman’s Seniors, Anne-Marie loves getting lost in a good mystery, being involved at her church, and spending time with her daughter and two grandchildren.

Emma Cohen

bio_cohen.jpg

A member of the Rossman School Class of 2010, Emma has wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember. “I have fond memories of coming home from school in first grade and immediately transforming the living room into a ‘school’ for my little sister (and a collection of stuffed animals),” she says. “I would create little activities and projects for her, and I delighted in the experience of giving her positive and encouraging feedback.”

These early experiences set the foundation for Emma’s teaching philosophy — that connecting with students, valuing them each as unique learners, and sharing a genuine joy in learning are fundamental aspects of successful classrooms and students. Emma’s approach to teaching is grounded in compassion and enthusiasm. She believes that one of the most important aspects of teachers’ jobs is to make students feel welcomed, encouraged and content in the classroom. “Our daily interactions with students, no matter how seemingly small, have profound impacts on their feelings of self-worth, motivation to participate, and overall sense of classroom community,” she says.

Having graduated Summa Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s in elementary education and child studies, Emma has had the opportunity to work with a diverse array of elementary students in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School District, and she spent one summer studying children in a multicultural context in Copenhagen and London. Throughout high school and college, Emma remained connected with her Rossman teachers and volunteered in the SK classroom. “Becoming an SK assistant teacher feels super full-circle for me,” she says. “My teachers at Rossman have evolved from role models to mentors to friends, which is incredibly meaningful.”

The middle of three sisters, Emma is very close with her siblings. She enjoys walks with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and recently learned to bake sourdough bread from scratch. She looks forward to pursuing a master’s in early childhood education.

A graduate of the University of Dayton in Ohio, Abbie taught at MICDS and in the Ladue and Parkway school districts before joining the Rossman faculty. Fueled by students’ joy for learning, Abbie strives to get to know and understand every child so that she can teach in a way that benefits each one.

Abbie’s belief that students learn best by experiencing the world for themselves translates to interactive, engaging and memorable lessons. She aims to create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, working hard and having fun.

Each summer, Abbie teaches sports at MICDS’s Camp Pegasus. A lover of the outdoors, she also spends time every summer in Montana, where she enjoys fly-fishing. Her other hobbies include reading and spending time with friends and family.
